We sat by the river, watching it flow
With minimal clothing and nowhere to go
Falling in love feeling so loose
Finding new uses for watermelon juice

We sat down to dinner at that old country inn
I remember your laughter and the touch of your skin
Finished that bottle of cheap red wine
Knowing I was yours and knowing you were mine

And if life was over today
I’d go to my grave with a smile
But if I could have you to comfort me always
I’d like to stay here for a while

Waltzing together on a Saturday night
With your arms around me the world feels so light
Your eyes they sparkled like no pair I’ve seen
And I thought that I’d wake up and find you were a dream

Drove you to the airport, tears in our eyes
Held each other softly and said our goodbyes
The summer was over and you had to go
But you said darling we’ll meet again someday I know
